Learning from the past
How many of us say “if only I knew what I know now, my life would have been different…?.”
But how do you know what you do not know?
The last few years for me and in particular 2018 has been one of those years. So much has opened up on business and my life personally, it has certainly affected my priorities, focus and my direction.
Life is precious and it is so important to maximise all the opportunities we get both professionally and personally.
The unexpected can easily throw you off course and we all know how often the unexpected can come into our lives unannounced and even uninvited at times.
So, in these times how do you cope? If you are a leader you are expected to have all the answers. Set out the revised strategy and adjust the direction to adapt to any given situation. But, what if during any of these times you are feeling broken, tired, exhausted? - How do you keep doing the ‘do’ within your business?
The biggest change for me was when I reached out. I found someone who spoke my language, related to my circumstances and had the heart to support all of my trials and tribulations.
A business is not just commercial it is also a massive emotional journey and I do think at times we do forget that and underestimate how much our emotions can affect the quality of our decisions.
I personally have gone through a lot on my journey and I strongly believe sometimes you have to go through ‘stuff’ to come out the other side and it can even make you a better person, but it is an enormous help to also feel you have someone by your side.
I love business, I virtually sleep and breathe it, but even a workaholic like me knows sometimes you just need to start letting go of something to get the life you want and deserve.
A number of points to get you thinking!
How many of you are still in touch with your purpose? What in life is important to you and why do you do what you do?
What is your next chapter?
Who are your next generation of staff – Who is there to help take pressure away from you?
Who do you need to be, to become the person you want to become?
I know I lost touch several years ago with the points above, the difference I found when clarity returns, it helps you not only become clear, but also helps you to make different decisions and take different directions that you never thought possible.
Your past is hugely important to you but it is not there to dictate your future.
If anything, I talk about resonates with you. Do get in touch, I would so enjoy listening to your life events and where upon your journey you find yourself now.
